A very wicked unfairy tale was written as a short story, a fairy tale. However, in order to push the boundaries further this project developed the characters and the costume for a theatre adaptation.
Synopsis
Disillusioned by her past, herself and her life, Alessandria struggled to find her place in the world. Constantly battling her inner demons, she fights hard to keep herself
composed in front of others when all she feels is her world crumpling apart. Her
therapist, a strange little man, kept asking her one silly question, when was the last time she had truly been happy. The answer, would set her on a journey she had yet to understand, a journey, that she would soon realized would free her.
One night when the moon was bright and high, she noticed a man, wearing a worn-out tailcoat pass by her window. Strangely her reminded her of her
therapist. Nervously looking at one of his many pocket watches, the
Tailcoat man, rushed out of sight. Thinking nothing more of it, Aless fell down into a deep slumber, only to be woken up by the hard floor
underneath her. Distraught, she wondered where she had fallen to.
Looking around, she watched her mysterious Mr. Tailcoat disappear through a large gate that stood in the middle of nowhere. Following him, she stumbled into a strange world. Pushing her way through the strange city maze she wound up face to face with a large dark forest. After a brief encounter with Mr. Tailcoat, Aless secured the Red cloak, given to her by the stranger, on her shoulders and enters the forest. Finding herself at a crossroad she encounters Mr. Wolf. Trying to lure her out of her path, Aless, now Red, must face a though choice in order to survive. Facing one of her
weakness she defeats Mr. Wolf and continues her journey. Encountering new characters, she puzzles about this new world.
After meeting the Madman and defeating the Evil Queen by shattering her mirror, Aless gets pushed down a cliff into the sea by the cunning Cheers the Cheshire cat.
Transforming into a Mermaid, Aless faces the Sea Hag and manages to push away the lures of the sea. Upon her return on land, she has tea with the Hatter who on a whim turns her into a monster, a Beast, telling her that the only way to free herself is to look deep within her soul. Furious, sad and disgusted by her appearance, she flees into an abandoned manor in hope on finding peace. Discovered by Beauty she slowly learns that true beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that it comes from within. By embracing her own beauty and by building up her self-confidence, Aless thanks to Beauty breaks free from the Beast and manages to leave the manor filled with hope.
Approaching the end of her journey Aless encounters the Red Queen and her Knave of Hearts who, although mad, help her understand why she has been on this journey so far. Putting on her large caged winter coat in order to face the snow storm approaching, she realizes there is still one enemy she must face; the Snow Queen.
Deceived by the Hobgoblin she succumbs to the Snow Queen spell and forgets her true purpose. Lost in the cold it seems that our little Gerda (Aless) is forever lost. Wandering without a purpose she is freed from the spell by a remorseful Hobgoblin who helps her defeat the Snow Queen. Her victory allows her to reveal the identity of all her enemies; herself.
Understanding that all of her most powerful enemies were in fact her own self, Aless wakes up in her bed. The next day, at her therapist, Aless relates her dream and confesses that it allowed her to truly understand how and why she could never find her happily ever after. She was her own enemy and she needed to fight her own demons in order to push further in her life. Her therapist smiled at her and said to her; “So who are You?”
